Board Meeting Highlights - May 25, 2017

PLRD #25 2017-2018 Operating & Capital Budget

The Board moved to approve the 2017-2018 operating and capital budget.  The finalized 2017-2018 operating budget is presented with a deficit of $233,000; funded through a combination of general instructional reserves and school specific reserves. A one-time increase in PO&M funding of $527,000 provides for an overall deficit.  There has been no net change to overall staffing, but changes will occur within the certified and uncertified areas as per the staffing budget that was approved, with amendments, at the May 4 Board meeting.  The capital budget includes requests for buses, passenger vehicles, phone upgrades, video conferencing suite upgrades and custodial equipment for a total of $604,000.

PLRD #25 Accountability Pillar Results

PLRD’s May 2017, Alberta Education Accountability Pillar results were reviewed and are once again outstanding as they continue to show growth as staff and students perform at a level well above the provincial average.  The provincial accountability pillar rates school divisions on seven indicators of effectiveness. PLRD scored excellent results for operating safe and caring schools, for providing optimal student learning opportunities, preparing students for lifelong learning, the world of work, and citizenship, parental involvement with the schools and system, and continual school improvement.  The Board wishes to acknowledge the intentional and impactful work of its staff and students as they continue to make PLRD one of the highest performing school divisions in the province.

Red Deer College Community Partnership Award

PLRD was a recipient of the RDC Community Partner Award 2017 with six other school divisions.  The Board Vice-chair accepted the award on PLRD’s behalf on May 17, 2017.  RDC initiated this award to honour the many and varied partners and to celebrate the spirit of genuine collaboration that benefits the overall community.
